Ithaca College began as a music conservatory in 1892. The arts remain very much a part of the Ithaca Experience. We want you to begin to share that experience on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 pm with an avant-garde concert in Hockett Recital Hall in the School of Music (Whalen Center). The free concert for Ithaca Seminar students will last about 40 minutes. The concert is a multimedia composition involving the Tango, music for two pianos by Piazzola, and archival video footage.

Immediately following the concert, Professor Patty Zimmermann will moderate a brief discussion between the artists and the audience to explore and challenge our understanding of aesthetic appreciation. Professor Zimmermann is a professor in the department of Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts and co-director of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival. She is a nationally known scholar and has been an invited speaker at numerous conferences and events including the Sundance Film Festival.

The concert you are about to see was first presented at Ithaca College in spring 2007. It is next being presented in Austin, Texas later this year.

Please arrive a little early for the event. Attendance for Ithaca Seminar students is a required part of the Ithaca Seminar program. We expect nearly all seats to be taken. Late arrivals will be turned away. Please be considerate of the work of the artists and of your fellow concert-goers. Do not talk during the concert and remember to turn off your cell phones. Hockett Recital Hall is a state of the art recital hall. We ask that you treat the facility with respect as well. We hope your experience at the concert will be interesting to you.

The program notes for the concert are attached. Reading these notes prior to the event will add to your concert experience. If your professor, asks you to attend the concert at an alternative time to that stated above, please follow your professor's instructions.

Thank you.
